Here are some of my tips that help me to relax and unwind after a busy and stressful day...
With busy schedules, work, studying etc, our lives can become very busy indeed. I've recently been trying to take some time to relax. Having anxiety, everything starts to build up to a point where I just feel completely exhausted. I've also been quite stressed recently too. Sometimes it is nice to have an evening in and sometimes it can be relaxing to go out with friends and family. Everyone has different ways in which they like to relax and unwind, these are just a few ways that have helped me and I hope they can help you too and hopefully turn a bad day in to better day, so you can feel more relaxed and unwind.
Taking Some Deep Breaths - If I am feeling overwhelmed, I like to either stand where I am, or sit down for a few minutes and take some deep breaths. I find it helps a lot and sometimes I like to stand outside and take some deep breaths of fresh air.
Watching a TV Show/Film - On of my favourite things to do to unwind, is watch my favourite TV shows or a film. Some of my favourite TV shows I love to watch are, Once Upon A Time, The Walking Dead, Orange Is The New Black and The Big Bang Theory. Just by doing some of the things you love, can make you feel so much better.
Listening to Music - I have lots of different playlists on Spotify that I like to play. I also have some for depending what mood I am in. I have a playlist of 90's and early 00's songs that I like to play when I'm feeling down. By listening to these songs, my mood is instantly lifted, especially with all of those nostalgic feels! This helps me to unwind after a long day.
Writing in a Journal - By writing down my thoughts and feelings, this helps me to realise what has made me feel stressed and anxious, so I am able to then focus on what has done this. I feel that writing down lists can also be very effective. Also along with writing down what is bothering me, I also like to write down a list of things that make me feel happy. By remembering a list of things that makes me feel much happier, I feel more relaxed as this has taken my mind off of the things that are worrying me.
Going for a Walk - I find it very relaxing going for a walk. It takes my mind off of things and helps me to unwind. I am also more aware of my surroundings, for example listening to the birds sing and looking at the wildlife around me. I also love finding new places to explore and look around.
Being with Family - Being with family instantly makes me feel much better. Sitting on the sofa with my mum and watching TV helps me to unwind after a stressful day and helps me to relax.
Meeting with friends - Going out with my friends always cheers me up. Sometimes it can be so easy to just want to stay in. One thing I love to do is going to the cinema with my friends and watch a film or even just meeting and going for a chat.
Having a Warm Bath or Shower - I find that when I need to relax, having a nice warm bath or shower helps. If i'm having a bath, I love to add lots of bubbles, a bath oil or a bath bomb. I like to wash my hair and pop on a hair mask, lather up in a nice smelling shower gel or bath creme and lay back and relax.
Reading a Book - I love getting in bed and reading a book. I am automatically transported to a new place. I love connecting with the characters in a book and imagining what each character looks like and what each place looks like within the book. I find reading very relaxing and it also helps me to get a better nights sleep when I read before I go to sleep.
Having an Early Night - After a long day and feeling exhausted, I like to get ready for bed early and then get an early night. I also find that not going on my phone or laptop helps me to get a better nights sleep too, as I'm not laying in bed staring at the screen.
