Remembering Those Who Fought in The Battle of the Somme
Today marks 100 years since the Battle of the Somme. The Battle of the Somme, was fought between July 1st and November 18th 1916.
July 1st 1916 remains the bloodiest day in British military history with 57,470 casualties in which 19,240 were killed.
Today we remember all who fought in The Battle of the Somme. This morning a two minute silence was held in remembrance and marks the moment the soldiers went over the top in to battle.
This morning my mum and I attended an outdoor service at 7:30am to remember those who fought. Whistles were blown and crosses and wreaths were laid.
